South Korean designer, Zio Song, presented his line SONGZIO at London Fashion Week, Men’s on Saturday morning. Being the first show of the day seemed appropriate, as the collection flaunted its pyjama-like stripes to the ‘180 The Strand’ audience.

The collection itself was not, however, inspired by sleep alone. It was in fact Inspired by the phrase: ‘Man, in his night, searches for his own light’. Song gracefully approached the subject of accepting and realising male’s emotions and feelings- a topic of wide interest in our current society.

For SONGZIO Spring/ Summer 18, the men were dressed in a series of bold, colourful, striped outfits. Some models sported the stripe as a statement piece, for example, a striped jacket contrasting a muted down white t-shirt and trousers. Other models went all out in full glory, wearing a full two piece striped suit teamed with a coordinated striped shirt underneath. The stripes were also used for detailing; peeking out from the lining of coats. Song made use of the bold stripes in a colour palette of blue, orange, red and grey. Pinstripes also crept into the collection on selected tailored pieces, including a sheer blouse and a casual sleeveless shirt.

Song works his own hand paintings into the SONGZIO SS18 collection. His original canvas paintings are translated into fabric and worked into the fascinating line-up. There are his paintings of men cast on t-shirts, and paint trails are splashed over shirts; a fine combination of Song’s creative skills.

We, at Noctis, love the use of plain and embellished sandals throughout the collection. The embellishment is a further demonstration of the acceptance of male emotion, plus a nod to the breaking gender boundaries of our time. Our standout piece from the line-up has to be the black leather slim fit trousers which are detailed with tassels down the sides. They create cool, daring and challenging vibes- a running theme for SONGZIO.
