55 Years and Counting - Yumi Katsura Grand Collection 2020 in Tokyo
Yumi Katsura has quite rightly gained the accolade of "Queen of Couture' in Japan. Since starting her first bridal boutique in 1964, she has made a profound impact on the industry. In particular, she has revolutionised the wedding ceremony in Japan through a constant passion for promoting both traditional kimono skills but with a modern twist and also infusing Western styles. Not surprisingly, she is head of several organizations such as the Federation of Asia & Pacific Bridal Associations, The Japan Bridal Association, and established Yumi Katsura Bridal House at Nogizaka. Her equisite work incporates exceptional Japanese craftsmanship with innovative fabrics, prints and embellishments. Now in her 55th year, Yumi Katsura celebrated this milestone achievement with a special showcase - the 2020 Yumi Katsura Grand Collection at the prestigious Okura Hotel in Tokyo.
Dubbed the "Brilliant White Debut", it is the 88th show that she has presented in Japan - a feat that no other couturier can surpass. The collection showed 55 years of experienced couture techniques in Western and Japanese styles and featured 70 pieces. Given the interest in the event, two shows were performed during the day to a packed out audience. In addition, a special exhibition featuring 20 iconic dresses helped to tell the story of this exceptional couturier.
